Greenlight Triennale: The Curse of an Unstoppable Appetite

The Curse of an Unstoppable Appetite
Greenlight Triennale

12 —15 September 2024 opening weekend, running until 20 October 2024
Telemark Kunstsenter, Skiens Kunstforening, Spriten Kunsthall, and Kunsthall Grenland
Skien and Porsgrunn, Norway

I recently had the privilege to once again travel to Skien and Porsgrunn in the Telemark region of Norway for the most inspiring event: the opening of the Greenlight Triennale exhibitions. I was previously in Porsgrunn to give a talk on artivism at a seminar for Greenlight back in June.

The Greenlight Triennale shines a light on climate change, environmental issues, and nature. This year’s exhibitions “thematizes earth, and in more concrete terms the establishment of a new mine for the extraction of rare earth elements (REE) at Fensfeltet in Ulefoss, a few kilometers north of Grenland”.

The exhibitions are spread out between two cities and four arts institutions and features the work of an impressive number of international artists reflecting on environmental themes in diverse media. I highly recommend checking it out if you have the opportunity. It should not be missed! And if you cannot make it, then I highly recommend reading the powerful statement by curator Power Ekroth and the profiles for the artists participating in the triennale.
